New York (Tadias) – Near New York City’s Washington Square Park, at NYU’s Windows at Kimmel Center, pedestrians and drivers alike are being treated to 13 exquisite photographs from Ethiopia. The images were captured by New York Times Photographer Chester Higgins, Jr. during his 2007-2010 trip to Ethiopia. The outdoor exhibit, entitled “Stars of Ethiopia,” is organized by the Institute of African American Affairs at NYU and features photos measuring 70″ x 80″ that are visible from the sidewalk. With each portrait, Higgins seeks to create a dialogue with the viewer, revealing his subjects’ diverse homeland through their eyes.
In the following video, Mr. Higgins gives Tadias a tour of his exhibition.

I saw the exhibition last night. The photos are even more amazing at night! Absolutely stunning. I would like to thank Ato Chester for celebrating the people of Ethiopia. It is clear that there was a lot of hard work put into it. Thank you!!
My father has been an incredible inspiration to me and my sense of self as an African born in America. It warms my heart when I see these great images of Ethiopia and our civilizations birth place.
I am so pleased that you all can enjoy these images as I know that my father works very hard to bring them to us.
all the best,
Damani Higgins
The camera was shaky, maybe it was done for artistic reasons, but other than that superb job. Good presentation! I like the casual, relaxed conversational style. But I would have asked more questions. For example, is Higgins going to make a series because Ethiopia has nearly 80 different ethnic groups, so 13 is just a sample, not representative of the whole country’? I look forward to his images of Harrar, wolega, Jimma and other areas. He will find it even more fascinating and beautiful. Over all, Kudos for job well done, the effort speaks for it.
It is a great work, very creative, I went back in memory, as a child I was like what you say falling in love with mass of stars, very happy, a country life in a town, Mekelle. You have said it right, stars of Ethiopia, thanks for making us proud.
Can you compare his peaceful message with what is done in that country, Ethiopia at present, you know what mr.Higgens say like paradise that is what he said, it is amazing.
